- CASE FILE
I'm 24 and for the last 10 years I've developed nerve pain and numbness all over my body - but according to all tests my nerves are healthy.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Starting in 2009 I began having pain and numbness in my right hand diagnosed as carpal tunnel syndrome - at 15. Since then the original dull aching pain has spread to both hands/wrists/elbows and I have developed nerve pain and odd sensations all over my body. Daily I wake up with burning numb pain in my arms and my left leg has been partially numb for almost a year. All my joints and muscles still function, but my sensory and small fiber neuropathy testing all showed normal results. All of my EMGs, Nerve Conduction Studies and MRIs have been normal. I've had 3 hand surgeries, 1 for carpal tunnel release and 2 for de'quervain's releases on each hand, and my nerve pain remained the same. I've seen rheumatologists, neurologists, orthopedists, physical and occupational therapists amongst other random clinics, and all of them have given me a clean bill of health - including Mayo Clinic. I'm in constant pain and I'm always exhausted. I've been dependent on medications for years. Years of trial and error and starting new meds, getting off meds, having withdrawals, and negative side effects. I've probably seen close to 100 different providers in the last 10 years and no one has been able to give me any real answers, just referrals and guesses. If anyone else has struggled with these symptoms - please help!
