ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Dad started with a severe bout of intestinal issues/diarrhea- he lost 40 lbs in 6 weeks in . Colonoscopy was normal no polyps (May 6). saw his primary dr for back pain issues on May 23. MRI lower back on June 12. During MRI, staff identify his difficulties breathing. ECHO on 7/2. MRI cervical spine and Thoracic on 7/5. EMG on 7/8. Ultrasound of lower extremities on 7/9. EMG on neck/shoulders. Referred to (Froedter hospital-neurologist- on 7/25. Pulmonary test on 7/13. 17 tests on his blood...all came back fine-Checking for virus infection or autoimmune issues on 7/25. All test up to now return normal. Spinal tap on 8/23. Referral for pulmonary dr....appt for consult not until Sept 18. He has insomnia. Can’t sleep in his bed, can’t lay on his back or on his side due to his severe breathing issues. He had to be sedated for all of his MRI tests. He can’t walk anymore without a walker. His balance is terrible. He is very weak. He is admittedly losing his short term memory. He speech is very slurred. We (my sister and I) are thinking PLS but haven’t received a diagnosis and it doesn’t explain his breathing issues. He can’t stand for the 10 minutes it takes him to shave in the morning..due to his weakness and balance issues. He can’t stand long enough to cook anymore. He lives in a second story home and has to climb 18 miniature stairs(not up to standard bldg code) to get into his home. My dad was a very active adult..swam 3x a week at a private athletic club. Please help our family! My dad has deteriorated severely since the sudden weight loss in March 2019. My dad was supposed to learn the results of his 8/23 spinal tap on 8/30. He suddenly passed away on 8/28. We still are looking for a diagnosis for family history purposes and to give us closure in some respect.
