Severe and persistent dizziness
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Been struggling with some pretty severe dizziness on and off for a few years now. Some days I wake up and the dizziness is so bad that all I can do is lay there and wait for it to pass. Other days, I'm able to get up and function, but end up experiencing waves throughout the day. At its worst, I can barely walk, feel as though I'm motion sick even when I'm not moving, have horrible nausea and a pounding headache, trouble focusing my eyes (lots of floaters), muscle weakness and pain from lack of physical activity, and my hearing goes in and out while my ears simultaneously pop. Went to one doctor who thought it was physical symptoms of anxiety and prescribed me antidepressants to help, but it made no difference. Went to another who had me checked for anemia and thyroid problems, but all tests came back normal. Went to an optometrist to have my eyes checked to see if poor vision may be contributing, but my vision was perfect and he saw nothing wrong. Went to yet another doctor who said I fit the description of someone who has benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, but given how constant my symptoms they are, I think it's more than that. That doctor referred me to an ENT who I will be seeing next month. I've done all kinds of research on various inner ear and balance disorders, but am wondering if any of you have any input. I went from this positive and outgoing person to someone who rarely goes out in public out of fear I'll have another attack and has become quite depressed as a result. Thank you for reading this and for your willingness to help!
