- CASE FILE
I’m a 43 year old single mother and almost everything I eat or drink hurts me. I’ve been suffering with this for about two years.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
For about two years off and on I would suffer from severe abdominal pain that radiated to my back when I would eat or drink. It would come about suddenly and last for about a week and go away. Since March of this year it has come and has not left. I have had numerous colonoscopies, multiple MRI’s, CT scans and most recently a PET scan. Because I had a gastric bypass in 2012 I went to that surgeon for help. He went in thinking he saw a loop in the bowel only to get in there with exploratory surgery and saw nothing. He has since given up. My gastro doc has no idea saying only he knows the issue is in my small intestine with a”thickening”. That is exactly where I experience the pain. I am being treated with Dicyclomine and Viberzi. Viberzi doesn’t work and I am taking up to 10 Dicyclomine tablets a day to manage the pain. I have stopped eating foods with gluten but that only helps some of the time. Even gluten free foods hurt from time to time. I do not drink soda, consume fried foods, beef, turkey or pork. You would think I would be a rail, right? Wrong. I’m not losing any weight. My body will not absorb iron as I have to get infusions every other month. My mother passed away in 2012 from bile duct cancer that wasn’t detected until fourth stage so it scares me that they won’t find my issue until it’s too late. I have seen multiple doctors and have taken multiple tests. They have ruled out Bile Duct Cancer, celiacs disease, and IBS (even though I’m being treated for it 🙄). I have an appointment in a few days at Mayo but I’m scared this will be an expensive trip and waste of time. Please help!
