- CASE FILE
A 13 year old girl diagnosed with multiple auto-immune diseases. Fast forward to 10 years, and the list continues to grow.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Why are you seeking help? I’m a 26 year old female, who has been sick for 13 years, feels that my symptoms are going to kill me. I have many diagnoses, but yet, keep getting more. Getting diagnosed with my latest disease, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, from under-diagnosed Celiac disease *which had been looked into 10 years prior*, is taking everything away from me.
Where do you feel pain or discomfort? Dealing with auto-immune issues has not been easy, but manageable. I have dealt with joint pain, swelling, but with EPI, I have immense stomach cramping, twisting, and pain. In addition, after 2 Nissan Fundoplication surgeries, I get sharp stabbing pain in my esophaguses as if something is stuck and robbing of me air.
How have your medical issues impacted your life?
Have you seen any medical professionals and what did they say? I am under current doctor care of my Gastroenterologist. My last appointment was not good, as he is almost out of options for me. As of right now, I am taking the highest dosage of digestive enzymes, but yet not getting the amount of relief to function. Every time I go to an appointment, I hear “we are worried about you”.
Have you taken any medicine? What medication have I not taken? That’s truly the question. I have doctors who like to think outside of the box, but my body will take to the medication, and then not work within a series of 2 weeks.
Have you engaged in any treatments or procedures? I have done everything that’s recommended to me by my doctors. As I say, “I will do anything at this point.” Overall, I have so many health issues, but I need help with my Exocrine Pancreatic insufficiency. I fear that this is not the only thing going on. My biggest fear is I will be dead by my 27th birthday.
