Puzzling blood pressure readings.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I am writing concernig my 83 year old mother. She has severe Rhematoid arthritis, diabetes, stage 3-4 kidney failure, anemia and the above mentioned conditions. These last few moths have been very stressful as we cannot control her blood pressure. Initially, it was very high blood pressure readings, we would take her to the ER and they would run tests and end up sending us home telling us everything is fine. We have taken several ER visits due to her high blood pressure always with the same result. On August 6, 2019 she got up that morning and everything seemed fine. She sat down to eat her breakfast and about 10 minutes into her breakfast she told her caregiver she felt funny. The caregiver came and got me and by the time we got to her she was passed out (eyes closed, non-resonsive). We tried waking her and she was not responding. Finally she slightly opened her eyes, and very groggly told us she was ok and proceeded to pass out again. She passed out another 2 times. We called 911 and she was taken to the hospital. They kept her for 2 nights and 3 days and ran multiple tests including a tilt table test. They told us that all her other tests were good, but that she did have a significant drop in blood pressure. They sent her home with a heart rate monitor (for 30 days) and on September 7th it will be 30 days. She has had echochardiograms done and they say that her heart function is normal, despite having a severely enlarged left atrium. She was taking 3 different medications for blood pressure before she went into the hospital on September 6, now she just takes one. Her blood pressure can be anywhere 188/104 to 129/60 in the span of a day. She is also asymptomatic, when her blood pressures are high, she has no symptoms at all. No headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, chest pain or anything. This is puzzling and concerning to me and it seems that no doctor wants to take the time to investigate what maybe causing this. I have begun to think that because of her age they just don't care and she gets brushed off. It has been a very frustrating journey so far. Any help and/or advice that you can provide is greatly appreciated. I can send you tests results and medical records for your review if you'd like and/or the names of all the doctors that see her.
