I'm writing for my husband. He has been dizzy with positional extremely bad headaches for 7 years after having 3 epidurals.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
In 2012 my husband had 3 epidurals for back pain. They did not help so he had a discectomy on L3/L4 in 2012. He began having very bad headaches after the first epidural and continued to get worse. It took over a year to find a doctor who diagnosed him with 3 CSF leaks. She did blood patches to close the leaks in 2013. Then the fluid started to build since he leaked for so long. They put in a lumbar shunt but my husband did not get better. In 2014 they took the lumbar shunt out and put in a ventricular shunt. My husband still did not get better. He had 3 shunts changed in 6 months and we then went to another surgeon who put an anti siphon device behind the shunt to stop the flow since they then thought he did not need a shunt. They did an ICP for cranial pressure which showed good pressure when a he was lying down but as soon as he sits or stands the pressure drops and he is dizzy (seasick feeling) and the headache is over whelming. He says it feels like his brain is sloshing in his head. He hates to be in the car because he says it feels like his brain is moving. He continued to get worse. In 2016 they took out the shunt and he has rapidly become worse. We have been to so many doctors we have lost count. No one has any suggestions. They just treat him for migraines and nothing works. He has done the botox treatments, ajovy injections and we have several prescriptions for migraine meds which don't even slightly help the pain. We have been to hearing and balance doctors, neuro ophthalmologists, neurologists and neurosurgeons. We have been to Duke, NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell, Robert Wood Johnson, University of Medicine and Dentistry, Mayo, Shands and USF Medical. We don't know where to go or what to do next. He's had many MRI's and cat scans and nothing shows. Our next appointment with another new neuro is not until 2/4/20. Every appointment we try to make takes months and when they see his reports they say you have been to the best what do you expect us to do. We are so overwhelmed since he was a heathy, happy and fun loving guy. He has no quality of life. In 2016 he was diagnosed with Parkinsonian like symptoms. We are asking for your help since no one knows what to do for him. Please help.
