For the past 15 yrs I’ve suffered from PYODERMA GANGRENOSUM that’s eating me alive piece by piece! Dr’s can’t find the cause nor treatment!
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I’m 42 yrs old & for the past 15 yrs I’ve been battling a very rare, debilitating, painful & exhausting disease: PYODERMA GANGRENOSUM. Completely out of the blue - & with no reason - It started in my leg with 2 large wounds that remained open for 2 yrs, then moved to my belly where I had a massive open wound for nearly 4 years. It soon moved to my finger after a simple small cut, but ended up needing the finger amputated; it took nearly 3 yrs for the wounds to close & my hand to mostly heal. It’s eaten away all my teeth, an ordeal that took 3+ yrs to get under control. Next, it ate away my nasal septum, where the large hole/wound currently remains 6 yrs later because surgery is too risky to attempt slowing down its progression. Drs have said there’s nothing safe to try fixing the interior. I’ve also had various ‘outbreaks’ of wounds all over my scalp for the past 5 yrs. Likewise, my body is covered in various size circular scars from all the pyo wounds throughout the years. Dr’s can’t find my cause for Pyo - I don’t have Crohn’s, Lupus, Leukemia (CML). It just seems to be Pyo by itself, making it all the more difficult to get on top of & slow down. If it wasn’t for my surgeon of the belly wound diligently researching treatments to close the belly wound, I wouldn’t be alive today. Since My wounds weren’t responding to various treatments or meds, He found a new company that had created a new drug, to fly out to meet me in my hospital room for a trial. It worked! The company - ACELL MATRIATEM. The medicine - ACELL. Though the open wounds eventually closed after several years thanks to Acell, it doesn’t do anything to find the pyo cause nor heal its continued progression I still battle new wounds all the time & feel horrible on a consistent basis. I have not had teeth for nearly a decade & am limited on what I can eat; my dentures are broken, don’t fit, & cause irritation in my mouth/gum tissue. I don’t have any doctors treating me right now, or even researching what to do to help. In addition to pyo, I also suffer from severe back pain due to multiple problems; I can’t have surgery to fix my back due to the pyo. Pyo has taken away a very much loved teaching career, & with that, financial independence. I have no money, had to file for disability, & have had to move back in with my elderly parents
