Imagine vomiting episodes that last a few hours to several days and can reoccur several times per month. Has been going on for years.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
My boyfriend wakes up about 75% of the mornings dripping with sweat, nauseous and in severe abdominal pain. He will start vomiting soon after waking up and it might last an hour or 5 hours. Most of the time by the afternoon he is able to hold down some liquids but the next morning is sick again. This can go on 5-10 days at a time and also has frequent diarrhea during episodes. Once an episode passes he can have several days of no vomiting or diarrhea but is left feeling weak, fatigued and in pain in his ribs, chest from all the vomiting. He has been dealing with this for years. Has been diagnosed with cyclic vomiting syndrome, hemochromatosis, gout, depression, anxiety. He is on his 3rd GI Doctor, sees a cardiologist, hematologist, rheumatologist and psychiatrist. He takes a handful of pills every night but just keeps getting worse, not better. Bloodwork is never quite right but no one doctor can pinpoint exactly what may be causing these episodes. He has a genetic mutation of H63D but the hematologist doesn’t think that is causing it. He has not seen a neurologist or geneticist but I wonder if these might be helpful. He can’t work consistently and was denied disability. The stress of the illness and lack of income leave him despondent and times wants to give up.
