I am a walking autoimmune disorder, female 67 , can't take biologics and allergic to methotrexate. Outwardly, I appear fine, inside NOT!
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I am a walking autoimmune disorder and have had histoplasmosis and cannot take biologics for my RA, only plaquinel because I developed an allergy to methotrexate. I have Raynaud's, Tako Tsubo Cardiomyopathy,Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, DDD, Fibromyalgia, can't walk around a king-sized bed without getting winded, but no COPD. (been tested half a dozen times with same results, no change after administration of inhalant). My cardiologist says my cardiomyopathy is worsening, but..."see you in a year!" Suggested pulmonary, AICD working properly. I have had 2 spinal fusions from spondyliolisthesis, and both hips replaced in the last three years, the last one not healing as well as first, causing me to be unable to exercise, which I began 3 years ago after 15 years of surgeries. I self-detoxed off of 240 mg. of oxycontin, 16 mg. Dilaudid, and 20mg. of valium and my pain management doc said it would never happen. I use medical marijuana and CBD to try and control the pain now, but it's not the same. I just turned 67 and I feel like I'm 97! The worst part is that other than being underweight, I look perfectly normal, so even my husband forgets how ill I really am. I believe my former rheumatologist used me as a study paradigm at Mayo Clinic in Rochester (I live in Jacksonville, Florida and see someone here, but they don't do anything except write my prescription for plaquinel. When I saw Dr. Yasharpour on the show I was excited because I also have allergies/sensitivities to so many medications, especially antibiotics. There is no family history except my mother had gout and varicose veins. I do have high cholesterol, but am not treated because the ratio is excellent due to Very High Levels of Good Cholesterol. The HAE diagnosis could be a possibility perhaps, as I do have swelling in my legs and bruise quite easily. Forgot to mention I also have severe scoliosis and my rib cage hurts constantly. I've probably left a few things out, but hopefully you can help. I know autoimmune disease is not able to be cured, but I could possibly be studied to give a more hopeful future to someone else. Thank you for reading this and may God Bless! Ironically, after watching the season opener for The Kardasians, I realize I may also have lupus now, as well! I have lost 10 pounds in 6 months and Drs. are concerned.....at 104# I could be a poster-child for starvation, with a BMI of less than 19! Changes occurring in eyesight, although I had cataract and laser surgery a year ago! My fingernails are lifting off the nail bed and I am unable to regulate my body temperature anymore. I get winded walking around a king-size bed, and forget about going outside in the heat and high humidity! I was a high-school athlete, ballerina, registered veterinary technician, and a chef/restaurant owner....never a sedentary job! I never expected for my body to turn against me. Sometimes I cannot speak an entire sentence without stopping for air!
