- CASE FILE
I am 21 years old but I can’t live like a 21 year old. After getting a strange sickness (still not sure what), I’ve never been the same.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
In June of 2018 I fell extremely ill with an unknown cause. I lost close to 40lbs in about a week, I could barley walk, it felt like someone kicked me as hard as they could in my lower back, I was also on a 6 week long period. Afternoon many visits to the urgent care, I ended up in the hospital with a fever of 104. After running every test they could as well as a chest X-ray and abdominal CT, the only abnormal was that my white blood cell and playlet counts were very very low with no known cause. After starting antibiotics it started to go away. Then 3 weeks later I had constant migraines that would not go away. I went 4 months before having another period as well. Ever since, I will go months with no cylce or get them more than once each month. My primary care ran as many tests as he could. We discovered I tested positive for raises Antinuclear Antibodies while all my other levels and tests remained normal. We also discovered through an MRI, I have severe osteoarthritis in my lower facet joints. We tried multiple anti inflammatory medications but the pain would not go away. I would (and still get) sharp, shooting pains that will paralyze part of my body and make me collapse out of nowhere, my hip joints will lock up or if I sit certain ways, I will be unable to walk due to pain. We finally found a medication that helped with the inflammation and the pain started to go away, but then I started having severe pain in my stomach. I could eat or drink anything because it hurt so bad and I couldn’t stand up straight. We assumed I was having an allergic reaction to something in my diet because I have many food and environmental allergies. But then I started to throw up blood and find blood in my stool daily. My doctor advised I stop the medication immediately and then he put me on a medication to try to repair some of my stomach lining to reduce the pain. Then in May of 2019 I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome. The doctor found a large amount of cysts in my ovaries which have continuously caused me severe pain. If and when I experience a cycle, I am paralyzed with pain and begin to vomit from the pain. Even to this day, I will still experience blood in my stool or vomiting blood at least a few times each week. It’s been almost 2 years, and many doctors and my symptoms haven’t gone away, or gotten any better. I’ve just learned to live with them and accept them. I’m so tired of being sick all the time and not knowing why or what is happening to me. I am 21 and can’t do all the same things my friends can do because of what it will do to my body. Please help.
