Core & back muscle pain, malaise and extreme fatigue after a knee replacement surgery has changed my life to daily struggle to function
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
After a simple knee replacement (unsure if related) I woke up from the surgery in a lot of core pain, back pain, and the most fatigue and exhaustion I've ever experienced. They originally thought that I might be allergic to the metal in the knee implant, but this was never proven. I have been to over 25 doctors over the course of almost 4 years now. The closest I can describe the feeling is that it feels as though my system is somehow "rotting", or suffering from cancer where my body is possibly fighting against itself somehow. Another explanation is something like how you might feel if you partied all night on New Year's Eve, drank WAY too much, got in a few fights, and woke up on a park bench somewhere the next morning. That's me DAILY. You know how much you hate a morning hangover? I've had that for almost 4 years, daily.
I'm on ice on my back 3-5 times daily, and I've tried everything from sleep hygiene to physical therapy, and everything in between. They have noticed in blood tests that occasionally my cortisol levels are dangerously low, but subsequent tests show them back up again. Back and forth, dozens (possibly 40?) blood tests later, I have no answer. This changed me from an active, happy, eccentric father to a crushed, crippled shadow of a man. I've missed everything from my daughter's 16th birthday to graduations, Christmas, etc. I MISS SO MUCH feeling "normal". I will never take "NORMAL" for granted again.
