- CASE FILE
I have 3 types of arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Dupuytren’s Contracture in my hands, feet and possibly my knees. Chronic pain all over.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
In my mid 30s, I began having shoulder problems. They progressively got worse and then my back started hurting. I was sure I was having muscle spasms. I decided to see a spine specialist and was told I had Spina Bifida Occulta, which in my case was just a gap in the lower vertebrae. That is when they saw the minor case of scoliosis. Later in life a fall caused the area to basically break in l-4 and L-5 and a surgical spinal fusion corrected this for the most part. I still experience a great deal of pain. In my late 30s I began to have a lot of chronic pain in my arms, neck and knees. X-rays, MRIs and blood tests did not show signs of any problems. After years of seeking help, I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. The go to diagnosis in the 1980s and 1990s. My blood tests started coming back with a high Sed rate, so they were beginning to see that I had inflammation in my body. Now blood tests show Rheumatoid and X-rays are showing Osteoarthritis, as well as Psoriatic arthritis. I also have a slight problem sometimes with brain fog. These symptoms started showing up in my 50s. In the last 5 years, my hands will start to hurt and one or two fingers will curl inward as in a fist. The tendons in my palms are very raised up. This is happening in my feet, but the toes are not effected so far. My Doctor can only assume by symptoms that I have Dupuytren’s contracture in my hands and feet and now possibly my knees. The balls of my feet swell a lot. I am 65 and have osteoporosis and degenerative disc disease. My entire body hurts. I do not and will not take Opioids or any other addictive pain medication. I do take a lot of Ibuprofen. I have tired many of the prescribed antidepressants that are supposed to help with pain, but I do not tolerate those medications well at all. I do take Clonazapam at night to help with restless leg. So I generally sleep okay. Otherwise I am drug and alcohol free. I want to try CBD oil, but I am afraid to. I try to exercise, but the pain the next day keeps me from exercising for a few days. So I struggle to exercise. I love to travel, but the last few trips I have been on, I have to rest too often and sometimes go back to my room because I can't walk at all. I am too young to be home bound and not able to travel. No one wants to have to use a motorized chair, but that seems to be in my near future. I was on Disability for about 15 years until they forced me to take early retirement. What do I do? How do I exercise and keep my body working? I am not a candidate for joint replacement, Doctors just say... arthritis freaking hurts. Well, yes it does. Does anyone have any suggestions? What do others in my situation do? 65 is too young to be this disabled.
