ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
April of 2013 I had an exercise/lifting accident. I was trying to lift a kettlebell over my head. My hand slipped and I hurt my neck. An MRI showed that I had four bulging discs in my neck, scoliosis, radiculopathy, and frozen shoulder syndrome. I would get a lot of painful spasms in my neck and my arms would constantly feel like they were falling asleep with a pins and needle feeling. I'm not sure if any of that is related to what I'm experiencing now with my right arm/hand. For almost two years now, starting around late December 2017, I keep feeling like my right shoulder is out of place and the range of motion has decreased a lot. I can no longer use my right arm or hand. My right arm and hand will have these weird spasms and contractures. It feels like someone is squeezing my arm and hand or like a blood pressure cuff is on your arm/hand squeezing tighter and tighter and tighter. My fingers are curving in at the knuckles on my right hand. I'm unable to bend my fingers or grip/hold on to anything like I used to be able to.
It all started gradually over several years. In late November 2017, a doctor gave me a corticosteroid shot in my right arm. In late December 2017, I tripped over a chair in my kitchen and caught myself with my right arm and hand. It swelled a little bit but I figured it would be fine and treated it at home and put ice on it and took over the counter pain relievers such as Tylenol and Motrin and Aleve. My whole arm and hand started feeling extremely heavy, tight and stiff. It would get a burning, tingling, and pin prickling sensations that would last a long time. Theses sensations kept getting worse. I'd go to the doctor/ER over it... no one would give me any answers to what was wrong with my arm and hand.
I would wake up many mornings and my right arm and hand would feel very heavy. I couldn't raise or bend my arm or bend my fingers. It would last a while before I could eventually bend my fingers again. I would get scared and I even went to the Emergency Room a few times but they'd always send me back home without answers or solutions. It keeps getting worse, the pain, the stiffness and heavy feeling and feeling like my shoulder is out of place and that a bone is trying to come out from my armpit. I can't bend my fingers at all anymore and my hand and fingers are curving inward at the knuckles.
I broke down and went to another emergency room in the summer of 2018 and they thought I had cerebral palsy because of how my right-hand looks. But I don't have cerebral palsy unless you can suddenly develop it later in life. My right hand used to look normal like my left hand. They couldn't really give me any answers as to what was wrong my right arm and hand. I don't understand what has caused my right arm and right hand to now look deformed and can't use it anymore. I have trouble even lifting or bending my right arm. At times my right arm and hand feel paralyzed. It feels very heavy, stiff, painful, uncomfortable and at times it feels like it's on fire.
I can't even grip onto anything with my right hand anymore. I used to love to write and draw and paint. But I can't grip onto a pencil or paintbrush. It hurts to even sit up and eat because my hand and arm feel so heavy and hurts so bad and feels like a bone is trying to come out of my armpit. I have gained a lot of weight because it hurts to even get up and walk around.
Any movement I try to do hurts my right arm. I used to weigh between 125 and 135 lbs before these problems with my right arm and hand. I used to love walking and exercising. I was very active, and interested in a lot of fitness stuff. Now it's difficult to walk from my room to the bathroom because just a little bit a movement causes severe pain in my right arm. Earlier this year I weighed 203 pounds that's the most I have ever weighed in my life. I don't even eat that much because it's hard for me to even sit up to eat. So I don't understand why I've gained so much weight. It feels more like swelling/fluid retention.
I have trouble combing my own hair, getting dressed or undressed or bathing on my own. My mom has to help me and it's so humilatating. I used to be able to do that stuff on my own and I wish I could again. My mom has her own medical problems and I feel like I'm a burden. I want to find out what's wrong with my right arm/hand and find out the treatment options to make it better so I can do things for myself again.
I feel like whatever is wrong with my right arm and hand is detrimental to my life/health. I watch your show where you try to help others with their medical problems. Will you please help me?
