- CASE FILE
I have Lymphedema throughout my whole body. My arms are swollen as are my torso , my legs, ankles & feet. Medical doctors offer no help.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
After a car accident in the 1990s I developed some swelling in my limbs. Medical doctors tested me for lupus, arthritis, vasculitis , circulatory issues -- all were negative. A chiropractor diagnosed me with lymphedema and helped me with massage and other techniques. When I moved from Illinois to Georgia I found a massage therapist who specializes in lymphatic drainage and massage. She has helped me for 10 years but my condition is chronic and there is at this point --no cure. I also wear compression garments and use a lymphatic compression pump at home. As I've gotten older my condition has worsened and has caused stress on my heart. I have been recently diagnosed with Diastolic Heart dysfunction ( my heart does not relax efficiently ) and am now on heart medication. My therapist feels the heart condition was caused by the strain of the lymphedema making my heart work harder. In lymphedema, the lymph fluid becomes gel-like and does not flow as it should, thereby causing my heart to pump harder and not relax efficiently.
