ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
My sister has always been in perfect health and always had perfect vision. Until after her 18th birthday when she woke up one morning unable to see. In the beginning the sudden blindness occurred in one eye. She described her vision as a static tv. The frightening morning revelation made my parents rush her to be seen. However, doctors could only see that her vision had gone from 20/20 to partially being able to see. Several tests occurred within the past 9 years. Including genetic testing to see if any of our family would hold a hidden genetic answer. However, as years passed she became a medical mystery to every medical facility and doctors that saw her. UCLA, USC, and UCSF eye specialists have kept a constant tab on her eye sight decline. All monitoring but no treatment or conclusion. Every time there was a possible diagnosis it was always disproven. As her sight declined at a random pace so did her health. She has become sensitive to getting colds and often takes her over a month to recover. Two summers ago a simple sunburn turned into unbearable itchy white spots that turned into a diagnosis of the Christmas Tree Rash. There was only one attempt where UCSF Proctor Eye institute proposed medication to see if it would delay the rapid sight decline however, it did nothing but weaken her current health. She ended up getting all of the 1% symptoms that rarely occur with the medication. Years have passed and the best that has occurred was for her to try to learn how to function without her eye sight. It is a constant struggle as her rapid vision doesn’t allow her to get accustomed to changes. She is currently studying and racing to finish her degree in the field of Art and Design before she becomes fully blind.
